Dental prophylaxe for children

Regular prophylaxis care for children can prevent the occurrence of tooth decay and gum problems. Removal of plaque, calculus and stains from the tooth structures in the primary and transitional dentition. Transitional dentition involves a mix of primary teeth and permanent teeth. This period typically begins with the appearance of the permanent first molars and ends with the ex foliation of the last primary. Pit and fissure sealant for primary teeth are among the measures against tooth decay. The problem with the fissure sealants is unfortunately the fact that they can crack and could lead to caries.

Dentcoat but provides here the better holistic approach:"Where is little or reduced bacteria –there is an excellent protection against tooth decay".

Other measures:

  • Oral hygiene: it will assess the oral hygiene and gingival condition. For better clarification of problem areas; existing deposits can be made visible by coloring of plaque on the teeth.
  • Oral health education: education about the causes of tooth decay and gum disease and how to avoid them.
  • Oral hygiene advice: including practical exercises of tooth brushing techniques, flossing and cleaning between teeth
  • Dietary advice
  • Fluoridation of teeth: for prevention of tooth decay teeth are fluorinated with gels. The fluoridation reduces the acid solubility of the teeth, thus reducing the caries susceptibility, especially during tooth eruption
